She was hired in 1976 by Ohio State to work in the then-new Office of Women's Services in the University Counseling Center. Belote describes the early years of the Office, its relationship with the Counseling Center, and the events and programs she helped organize for Ohio State's women students, staff and faculty, sometimes in collaboration with local organizations like the Women's Action Collective
